Y4 Science

In our science lessons this half-term with Mrs Thomson, we have been learning about the digestive system, including teeth.

We have found out that enamel is the hard surface which protects our teeth. Sugar in food and drink can lead to plaque and tooth decay, which is why it is so important to brush our teeth twice a day. This week, we conducted an experiment to see what would happen to eggs left in different liquids:

· Water

· Coffee

· Coca-Cola

· Orange juice

· Vinegar

The eggshell acts as enamel. We had to predict what we thought was going to happen. We took the eggs out of the liquid after 4 days to see what had happened. We were shocked to see the damage to the eggs that were left in the liquids with a high amount of sugar. We will certainly remember this experiment when it’s time to brush our teeth!
